Tiny Tidbits 8.13

*John and Chloe were invited as guests to a Vacation Bible School. John and Chloe were in separate classes, which hardly happens since they are only 1 grade apart and then, since they are both younger than their friends, they weren’t even in their friends classes. I asked John if he had made new friends. He said yes he made friends but that his absolute best friend was there too! “Oh, who is that?” I asked. “God!” says John.

*Chloe singing along to the hymn, “He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him. He punched me to victory, beneath the cleansing blood….Mommy, why did He punch me to victory?” I couldn’t help but laugh {that happens a lot} and explained that the song doesn’t say punched, it says plunged; that if we are saved, then we’ve been washed {plunged} with Jesus’s blood.

*Part of John’s prayer at lunch the other day, "Thank you Lord for our wonderful Pastor. Thank you that you died on the cross for us so we don’t have to go to hell. I hope you are having a good time in heaven. Amen".

*"What are you doing?!?!" shrieked me {calmly of course!}

"Mom, this cat litter pail from the garbage {not my garbage since we don’t have a cat} is our treasure. We filled it with bird seed and hung it up – it’s our bird feeder" {while both of them are standing on the picnic table in the front yard.

Um, hello?!? We have a million birdfeeders out there already. No way am I going to be the house with the cat litter pail hanging from a tree out front!

*Yes, I did hand my daughter (6) a diaper (clean!) to blow her nose in at church the other night. And yes, she looked at me odd, then used it. #TrueConfessions #NoKleenex {and yes, the people behind us noticed and were chuckling!}

*Chloe: Mom, why did God create fruit flies?

John: Who else would untie the strings?

Me (very puzzled): John, what strings?

John: Member when you went to Italy and you told us about the big fruits {pomelo} and how sometimes they tied the big ones to the tree so they didn’t fall? Those strings.

Me (laughing): Yes but people untie those strings sweetie. I have no idea why God made fruit flies. We’ll have to look it up.

*Chloe had an epiphany the other day while looking at a Hello Kitty McDonalds toy. “Mom, ‘Hello Kitty’ doesn’t have a mouth. How can she say ‘hello’?”

*I decided last month that every month we would focus on a hymn, first learning the words and then learn a little bit about how the hymn was written. I dug out my old hymn book from the piano bench and explained that it was a hymnbook. John asked (wide-eyed and serious), “Is it from God?”.  I then explained that it was an old hymnbook from my papa who used to play the organ at church. John then asked, “And he got it from God?” I guess maybe the humor gets lost in the retelling of it but it was awfully cute at the time.

Proverbs 17:22

A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
