Day by Day and a Psalm

Before I begin to share Isaac’s birth story I wanted to share this song with you. Just as Isaac has grown so much since his arrival in June, I too have grown as well. The Lord gave me this song while Isaac and I were in the hospital and I sang it to Isaac, prayed it to the Lord and comforted myself with it.

Day by day, and with each passing moment,
Strength I find to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He, whose heart is kind beyond all measure,
Gives unto each day what He deems best,
Lovingly its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

Every day the Lord Himself is near me,
With a special mercy for each hour;
All my cares He fain would bear and cheer me,
He whose name is Counsellor and Pow’r.
The protection of His child and treasure
Is a charge that on Himself He laid;
"As thy days, thy strength shall be in measure,"
This the pledge to me He made.

Help me then, in every tribulation,
So to trust Thy promises, O Lord,
That I lose not faith’s sweet consolation,
Offered me within Thy holy Word.
Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting,
E’er to take, as from a father’s hand,
One by one, the days, the moments fleeting,
Till with Christ the Lord I stand.

And though I did a lot of reading throughout the bible, these two verses were something I read through many, many times. I’m so thankful that God’s Word is timeless. Though our daily circumstances may be different than in bible times, the Lord can use His Word to apply to our lives today to chasten, correct, encourage, comfort and strengthen us.

4Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation;

5That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.

  1. Jennifer, this is beautiful. God and His Word have been precious companions with you through these difficult months and I’m eager to read more about what He has taught you and shown you of Himself through it all. This morning at our ladies’ Bible study, we talked of the importance of looking back at the “storms” of life and finding the jewels and blessings within them that we would have missed otherwise.

    Bless you and your lovely family,
    Linda

    • Linda, it’s always a delight to see a comment from you. How true it is that looking back, it is often easier to spot hidden jewels! I’m still looking forward to sharing Isaac’s story, when I finally find that moment. His story is ongoing, and though he is thriving and a sweet, sweet baby, he could still use your prayers. Take care my friend!

  2. Greetings from Wordwise Hymns. Thanks for sharing the words of Lina Sandell Berg’s beautiful hymn. It caught my eye as I posted an article on it myself yesterday. More congregations need to sing this song more often. It’s simply loaded with important truth and warm encouragement. God bless.
