Pregnancy Update 38th Week

IMG_6809No photo does this big bump justice!

Simply Baby has been posting and I’ve been taking a break.

I’m in my 38th week.  We had an ultrasound two weeks ago and they estimated baby at just over 7lbs. Based on an average growth rate of 1/2lb per week, I expect Isaac will be about 9-10lbs if I go full term.

Chloe was 7lbs 9oz and John was 9lbs 9oz.

I’m ready for baby to arrive. My hospital bag is packed, I’m set up for my homebirth and I’m big as a house. That qualifies me as ready doesn’t it?

Each time he kicks or jabs you with an elbow, stop for a second and put your hand on your stomach to memorize the movement and record it in your head. It’s a precious time, and who knows if and when it will happen again?                                                                                                  ~Penn Pregnancy

This weekend I experienced some “false” labor; I didn’t have it with the other two children and was surprised at how real it felt. Because of the contractions {false though they were}, I spent the weekend waiting for actual labor to start, sure that he was coming early though he isn’t due until May 27th. Then I read a comment from a friend on facebook. My wise friend said that she found it was very emotionally draining to be expecting something to happen for days/weeks on end. She’d had false labor and basically been there/done that.

So here I am, returning my expectations back to May 27th. I plan to fill the next few weeks with stories, cuddles and enjoying the time with my tots before my time is divided between them and my sweet new baby.

We have another ultrasound on Thursday.

So, if I’m not around too much, you know why. Please send prayers upwards on our behalf for a safe delivery.

Did you experience ‘false labor’? How long before the real thing happened?

  1. YAY! You look really small in that photo for 38 weeks. I hope he comes soon and that you don’t have any more false labour. I can’t wait to meet him and hear your birth story.

  2. Hey Jenn, I’m due the same day as you and you look small to me! I’m curious to see whose baby comes first. 😉

    • Oh, fun! Is this your first? I was 4-5 days “late” with my first two so I’m expecting the same with this one 🙂

  3. Not too much longer for you.. I’m preparing for another biggie baby too!

  4. Hi Jennifer! First of all, beautiful baby bump and best of luck with the upcoming labour & delivery! It sounds like you’ve got everything covered and now it’s basically a waiting game!

I didn’t have false labour myself, but I *was* told at 32 weeks (following an ultrasound due to “measuring small”) that I might deliver prematurely due to a shortened cervix and low amniotic fluid. Long story short, I ended up delivering almost 2 weeks overdue, heh.

Wanted to let you know that I’ve chosen you to receive “The Versatile Blogger” award! I love your content on natural birth & parenting, simply living tips, etc. And giveaways don’t hurt either. Take a look here!

    • Thanks so much! I’ve been a little MIA around here – busy mowing the grass and other things in an attempt to encourage labor. So far, it’s not working 🙂

  5. Hey Jennifer, This is my 3rd as well. I was 3 weeks early with my first (obviously not happening this time lol) and right on my due date with my second. Hard to say what will happen this time. 🙂

    • @Beth – I checked with my midwife, I was 4 days past with my first and second. I guess this baby is looking to line up with that too since there is still no sign on him! Congrats on your third 🙂 Are your children excited? Mine sure are!

  6. Oh yes, my 3-yo climbed on my lap last night, pulled my shirt up and said “Baby, come out!” 🙂 She thinks the only way the baby can hear her is if she talks to my bellybutton. 🙂
