Livin’ the Life in UV Skinz (+ Giveaway) CLOSED

View 2010 UV Skinz Rock!

Last year I had the privilege of reviewing a baby UV Skinz outfit for John. I loved it. I was so excited to be able to bring partner with Rhonda and UV Skinz again this year.

Chloe received the most adorable suit from their new line. The ladybug board shorts are adorable with the brown and pink brook UV Skinz shirt. I honestly love this set on my daughter and would actually love one for myself. It’s beautiful, fun, sweet and I just love pink and brown. {I checked their handy sizing chart and no, I would not fit even their biggest size. LOL}

On to the review…

(thanks dad, for teaching them to shoot each other LOL)

Sizing

Chloe is three. I requested a size three, it arrived and fits perfectly with plenty of room to grow as well. I expect it will fit her next year as well. Last year John’s baby set was a 12-24 month which he wore at 12 months. It fit him well then, with room to grow. Because the board shorts have ties as well as Velcro, it really helps to make it a custom fit. John’s fits again this year at almost 24. Two summers out of a suit; awesome!!

Health

Sunscreen is expensive, consumable and not all that healthy. Don’t believe me? Read about Skin Deep ratings. Some sunscreens cause reactions for those who struggle with sensitive skin or allergies. There are some great sunscreens out there, I’ll share the latest ones we’ve tried in another post. Anyway, don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating going without sunscreen; I’m simply pointing out that taking advantage of products {like UV Skinz} designed to minimize the amount needed seems smart to me. The less chemicals and such on your body, the healthier you’ll be.  UV Skinz provides “one application all, all day protection.”

Economical

Now economical is different to every family but economical is about more than just price. At first glance you may think they are a bit pricy but let me assure you that though I received mine for review, based on that review, I think they are worth every penny. Our family is a medium one-income family. For me to stay home, we have to watch our finances. I will be buying a UV set for myself (as soon as their new board shorts come in) and plan to replace my littles’ suits as they grow. Anyway back to why I think they are economical. You need to take into account:

  • possibility of more than one season
  • money saved on sunscreen (Purchase a UV Skinz shirt for the same price as a bottle or two of sunscreen. Your shirt will last longer and cost less in the long run.)
  • quality = great hand-me-downs (or resale value?)
  • not just for swimming, guaranteed to get lots of wear and hold up!
  • what’s the price tag on healthy skin?

Fast and Easy

The UV Skinz products provide fast, even coverage! A key word here is fast! I said last year that when we arrive at the pool, the littles want to dart off right away. This is even more true this year with two tots on the go! Sunscreen needs time to work and takes time to apply. Getting them into their suits is so much easier on me!! {It’s all about me really}.

Other Thoughts

  • Loose-fitting (but not too loose)
  • Quick drying
  • UVA & UVB protection
  • Stylish and Cute!!
  • Chlorine Resistant
  • Moisture-wicking
  • No Mould or Mildew {I don’t know if it is just me but, especially on Chloe’s light pink suits, after a while I find tiny black spots on it. It happened with some cheap suits she had as well as with some pricier suits. In our recent visit to Africa, we used our suits every day then hung them to dry. By the end of our trip, Chloe’s (not UV Skinz) had little back dots but John’s UV Skinz was fine. We’ve been using Chloe’s new UV Skinz set for several weeks now and even though it is light pink like her other ones, it’s pristine!}

A Family in Skinz

They’re getting some new women’s board shorts in and I am super excited. I’ll be ordering the shorts, a Renee shirt and swim bra. I can hardly wait to be in my own Skinz. They have a great selection for men, women, children and babies. They’ve got your family covered! You would not believe how many comments and compliments my little ones get on their suits. You can bet that our family is a UV Skinz family and if you see us on a sunny summer day; we’ll be in our Skinz.

  1. These are awesome. We would all like this in an adult version. I would actually love it for Irelyn in Australia too. I think I also like how well they have stood up to both the chlorine & salt. That combo seems to wreck the suits.

  2. This would be great for my daughter. I vote for the ladybugs or flutter in my size!

  3. Those are adorable. I saw a couple kids at the beach with these on and thought they were the CUTEST outfits! I really liked the Navy Stripes Set for boys. The orange is awesome!! I have to say, my boys would look adorable in these!

  7. oooo, I like the Celia – soft pink top and bottom (would be great for our little gal!).

  8. I would love to get my dad the Adventure Hat. He’s in his 70s and could really use one! He has had a history of having places removed on his face…too much sun as a young kid!

  9. Don’t forget your lips!! Make sure you always have something with UV protection on your lips (and ears are also frequently neglected). Those are areas at great skin cancer risk!

  10. I was just looking at these for men.
Mmmmm ……..I think it would be a good idea
for those many pool days lately with that sun so hot.

  11. Best tip – stay out of the sun, and until my younger one can crawl, keep him in this stroller under a shade… after crawling starts – get him in uvskinz!

  12. I would love to get my son the navy stripes set. We live in Texas so we need all the help we can get 🙂

  13. I like the Blue/Purple Reversible Bucket Hat and my best tip is to wear sunscreen.

  14. Best sun safety tip: always wear a hat and don’t forget to put sunscreen on your ears!!

  15. I would love to have Navy/Blue Plaid – Reversible Bucket Hat, I’m expecting a new nephew and this would be great for him 🙂

  16. I’d follow the UV Skinz blog, but I don’t see an option to do that on their blog. Let me know if you know how! Thanks…

  17. My best sun safety tip is to stay out of the sun between 10-2 if possible. good time for lunch and a rest, back at it later in the afternoon. 🙂

  18. I love the hats they have, particularly the Sport Hat. The head gets the most sun exposure and is usually the least protected. I also love that it has a flap to protect the neck. No more redneck! Thanks so much for the chance to win!

  19. I like the Pink Flowers-S – Hot Pink/Flowers UV Short Sleeve Shirt.

  20. My favorite UV Skinz would be the Sharky Camo, as my boys are huge fans of anything shark, as long as they are not swimming with them at the beach.

My best sun tip. Go to the beach in the morning, this way you will be able to spend more time at the beach without getting burned….don’t forget the sunscreen though.

  23. I really like the Maggie Aqua/Light Pink
and my tip is to avoid peak hours of sunshine for outdoor activity

  24. this would sure help us out a lot!! my kiddo loves being outside in her little pool, but is not a fan of sunblock being applied as often as i’d like! one compromise i’ve found is to stick a big outdoor umbrella right in the corner of the pool to provide shade to almost half the pool. we’d choose somthing pink and girly!

  25. If I win, I’d love to get the Michael shirt in Regatta Blue, so he can wear it while he’s mowing the yard at our house and over at my mom’s.

  26. I like the sun stop’r kwik cabana.. that is awesome, I need to get this for my daughter because i live in SUNNY south florida! Thanks!

    Long Sleeve
Steel Grey for my son. He is really light and gets burned all the time even with sunscreen. This would be perfect.
