Wandering about on Etsy way back when, I saw these fabulous folding forts. But between the price tag and the shipping, buying this beautiful creation just wasn’t feasible for our family.
Thankfully my dad is a genius. Using some wood he already had, he put these together for us. Not to minimize dad’s genius but it didn’t seem to hard to build; he did it quite quickly and with no “pattern” except a picture. I’m sure you could make one!
Our new home {is it still a ‘new’ home if we’ve been here over a year?}, anyway, our new home is a raised ranch. I love it a million times over but it is smaller than our last home, the dining room is smaller and located in the upstairs portion, unlike our old house. While the dining room table was a perfect fort in the old house {and we could just eat in the kitchen if the fort was still up}, in this house, it just doesn’t work. ‘Fort play’ is something mama wants in the TV/playroom downstairs.
How to have a fun fort-building time without messing up mamas table?
These folding forts really are the answer; they are amazing. They fold down flat and are stored under the bed, neat and tidy. We pull them out to play and grab a handful of blankets from the closet and have our fun. Two sides are attached with a hinge and a string to stop them from going more than 95 deg. So they can rest one side on the back of the couch like a roof with the other side coming down as a wall, they can set it up in a A frame tent form, they can put them together to make 4 walls…the options are endless. Sometimes they are houses, cabins, forts…other times they have set up shop as a vet or a hospital.
How cool is this? And my dad? He’s a genius. And did I mention it folds and stores under the bed?
