How to Decongest Your Baby with hydraSense

Yes, this is me with no makeup and messy hair trying to smile and demonstrate how to use it.

New Baby, New Mommy + Cold = Panic

As a new mother, I am not afraid to admit that I panicked a bit the first time my daughter, Chloe, got a really bad cold. I headed to the pharmacy and asked the pharmacist when he recommended, then I bought it all! I would have spent our savings to buy the moon if it would have helped. My purchases included a no name bulb suction thingy (which I have since learned is called an aspirator) and some hydraSense Baby Nasal Mist. I also bought Vicks Vapor-rub and a thing that you plugged in to the wall to make a Eucalyptus scent in the room as well (which I have since learned is a no-no for babies). Anyway, there is nothing like the helpless feeling of holding your sweet baby as she struggles to breathe and nurse. I wasn’t really crazy about the bulb aspirator but I immediately fell in love with the hydraSense mist and made sure we always had some on hand. I can’t even count the number of times we have used hydraSense Gentle Baby Mist since that first cold. This was long before I had a blog to do any kind of reviews for 🙂 It helped to loosen the mucus, making it easier to draw out and at times, it made Chloe sneeze which really helped to clear her head as well.

My Favorite Cold Product

Because I love and use hydraSense Gentle Baby Mist already (it’s my ultimate cold essential!), when I was offered the opportunity to review their new Nasal Aspirator Plus, I was excited!

Now fortunately my neither of my littles has a cold right now but that is unfortunate for the review since I can’t actually test the aspirator. But I will share my initial impressions.

My first thoughts, “Eww, you want me to suck snoobies out of my baby’s nose?!?!” LOL. After looking at the aspirator, reading the information and examining the filter, I can honestly say that I think it will be really effective and I like that you can really control the amount of suction and the length of it. Using the bulb that I do did, you only have just a second or two of suction so you have to do many repeat attempts to draw anything out. If your littles are like mine, this is a traumatic (in their opinion) experience for them. I think Nasal Aspirator Plus will really simplify the process, making it easier and more effective. {Though I may consider doubling up the filter LOL). It is transparent so you can see the amount of mucus and it has a soft, gentle tip for baby’s delicate little nose.

In the Nasal Aspirator Plus package you receive the aspirator, an instruction pamphlet, 5 vials of hydraSense Easydose and six filters. You can buy extra filters and Easydose vials separately. The hydraSense Easydose vials and the hydraSense Gentle Baby Mist essentially accomplish the same thing; both “gently cleanse tiny noses blocked by colds and allergies to help your baby breathe more easily. Made with isotonic 100% natural-source seawater, its salinity is perfectly balanced with the body.” By using either of these products to help liquefy the mucus, then using the aspirator to suction it out; you can effectively ease baby’s stuffy nose quickly and effectively so they can sleep (or eat since those are what babies do best LOL). The nice thing is it is a natural solution so you can clear baby’s nose  as often as needed without fear of side effects!
