Positive Energy: Do Something Little

Energizer

When I heard about the Energizer Canada campaign with Mom Central, I knew this was a campaign I could get behind wholeheartedly!

Do something little. Help something big. Energizer is proud to contribute $100,000 to Evergreen and they want you and I to help! Pledge to make a few little changes to improve the environment and our communities and Energizer will donate an additional dollar to Evergreen.

Evergreen is a “not-for-profit organization committed to making Canadian cities greater and more livable; creating a more sustainable future for all of us.” In 1991 they began “engaging Canadians in creating and sustaining dynamic outdoor spaces—in schools, communities and homes.”

What kind of little changes can we make? Energizer has a great list of small acts that we can do as individuals that together can make a huge difference!

The five acts of kindness I chose to pledge with Energizer are:

Cleaning up litter in the neighborhood park. Not only does this benefit our neighborhood but having my two tots (3, 4) helping provides a great opportunity to talk about the environment, about keeping things neat and tidy, and not littering.

Donating food to a food bank. This is an opportunity to bless others in need and opens up a perfect teaching moment for my children; thankfulness for what we have and the importance of sharing and giving to others who are less fortunate.

Drying Clothing on the Clothesline is a great way to save money, is good for the environment with saving on electricity and gas but also the sun is a natural bleacher so less chemicals used! Another teaching opportunity about frugalness, the environment but also a science lesson about sun, wind and water evaporation.

Greet the person in the elevator. Well, not exactly the elevator but we make it a habit to greet those we pass on the street or are next to in line at the store. Teaching friendliness (with caution) to children along with manners, politeness etc. are important and there is no better teacher for my tots than allowing them to see me leading by example.

I will tell my children how much I love them. All these other acts are well and good but nothing will impact society and last to eternity like my children will. I want them to grow up knowing they are loved, valued and so very important to us!

Looking for more green ideas to save you some $$green? I am too. Feel free to leave your ideas in the comments!

How wonderful to impact my life, my finances, my community and my children with such simple things! Such wonderful lessons my little ones can learn and such important reminders for me.

So for your life, finances, community, environment and family, will you make a pledge with Energizer today?
